45 additional beds available nightly from Dec 15 to March 15 — that’s 90+ nights of safety.
Last winter, WC served 289 individual (unduplicated count) and provided 3873 Winter Crisis nights.
Our core facility offers 35 beds year-round. Winter Crisis more than doubles our capacity when the risk is highest.
Without Winter Crisis:
Dozens of people will be left outside — in sub-zero conditions.
The risk of death from hypothermia increases: hypothermia doesn’t care whether someone is sober, employed, or documented. It kills indiscriminately.
Emergency rooms and jails become default shelters each year.
Public safety systems get stretched: police are often called to check on people outside
